POOL OWNERS
No property can be brought, sold or leased without a Pool Safety Certificate as of the From Dec 2010.
Pool Safety Certificates are legally required when selling or leasing a property with a pool.
Only a qualified Pool Safety Inspector is able to issue a certificate to show your pool is registered as safe before selling or leasing a house with a pool.
The pool safety standard applies to all pools associated with houses, units, hotels, motels, backpacker hostels, caravan parks, mobile van parks and other forms of short-term accommodation.
Indoor Pools and Spa`s are also included in the new safety laws
 Many people are just not aware of what condition their pool fence is in.
Pools should be fun and exciting to have in the backyard, however drownings are the No 1 leading cause of deaths for children aged between 1 and 5.
Because of these statistics new pool safety laws were indroduced on the 1st December 2009 and applies to new residential pools.
The final stage, stage 2, commenced on the 1st of December 2010 and mostly affects existing pools.
All pools must be inspected by a Licenced Pool Safety Inspector.
Once inspected and passed, a Pool Safety Certificate will be issued and lodged with the Pool Safety Council.
A certificate for a non shared pool lasts for 2 years and for a shared pool is 1 year.
This is legislation and law and fines are being issued for non compliance.
The deadline for pool registration has come and gone.
Pool owners had until 4 November 2011 to ensure that their pool is registered.
Penalties of up to $2000 will apply after this time.
